Critical examination of current educational practices shows limitations on several counts. The Yogic wisdom integrates body, mind and spirit and offers scope for transforming the learner by training body and mind in a broader context. It replaces the anthropocentric perspective by an encompassing ecocentric perspective and empowers with a vision characterized by freedom to play and enjoy the various roles in a balanced manner.
About the Speaker
Prof. Girishwar Mishra is the former Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishvavidyalaya, Wardha , a central university in Maharashtra. Earlier he has served as Professor of Psychology at Delhi University for two decades. He has also taught at the universities of Bhopal, Allahabad and Gorakhpur. Was a Fulbright Senior Scholar at Michigan University and Swarthmore College, Philadelphia, Fulbright-Nehru Fellow at New School of Research, New York, ESRC Fellow at Sussex University England, President of National Academy of Psychology, India, National Fellow of ICSSR, Chief Editor of ICSSR Survey of Psychology published by Oxford University Press. Authored and edited several volumes including Handbook of Psychology in India (OUP). Research interests include, self, emotion, human development and Indian Psychology.
