About the Talk

Cancer has touched many of our lives directly or indirectly. In this presentation Smitha Mallaiah, Senior mind body interventionist at MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA will share the application and scope of yoga therapy in Cancer care. In her experience for over a decade she is seeing patients benefit tremendously from yoga therapy. Yoga therapy can be applied anytime from diagnosis, during treatment to survivorship to help patients not only to mange cancer but to thrive.

About the Speaker

Smitha Mallaiah works as a Senior Mind-Body Intervention Specialist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer centerís Integrative medicine program. She also serves as the Program Director at SVYASA-USA, Houston Center. At MD Anderson she is involved in Developing and teaching yoga research interventions for different Cancer populations, like Breast, lung, and Brain cancers. She also works with couples going through a cancer journey using yoga and meditation. On the Clinic side, she works alongside other integrative medicine clinicians seeing inpatients and outpatients going through cancer, from diagnosis through end of life using yoga therapy. She has co-authored yoga publications and has presented her work at national and international conferences on the efficacy of yoga in Cancer care. Smitha has been practicing yoga therapy for specific ailments for over 15 years at various hospitals and clinics. Some of her special areas of expertise include Cancer, Children with Special needs, Pre and Post-natal care, Post-Traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), and others. She has conducted many Yoga Teacher Training programs, Yoga Therapy Training courses, and Personality development camps for children, retreats and other courses at SVYASA Houston.
