About the Program:
Dhyana is considered as a very important dimension of Yoga with many beneficial healing outcomes. The sixth Chapter of Bhagavad Gita is called Dhyana Yoga or Atma-samyama Yoga. This portion of the Gita with 47 verses - contains valuable, authentic, ancient guidelines on Dhyana. This workshop is in the form of a textual Immersion. All the 47 verses will be individually chanted, words in the verses will be split & Paraphrased and meanings and import of the verses will be discussed based on traditional commentaries.
Program Objectives:
- To facilitate direct access to authentic source of wisdom on Dhyana
- To introduce systematic learning method of traditional yoga texts
- To promote confidence, in reading and quoting yogic textual sources in teaching, learning and practise of yoga
Learning Outcomes:
- Ability to read, correctly pronounce verses on dhyana from the Gita
- Ability to split the words and identify the individual components of the Verses on Dhyana Yoga
- Ability to grasp the contextual meaning and also insights from traditional commentaries on the verses on dhyana

Yoga Practitioners, Professionals, Teachers and Yoga enthusiasts with some formal training in Yoga, Some basic knowledge in Samskrita will be helpful though not mandatory

Dr Jayaraman Mahadevan, Director, Textual Research Division on Yoga, Indic Academy
Jayaraman Mahadevan holds a PhD in - Samskrita from the University of Madras (2006-2010) (Topic The Doctrine of Tantrayukti - A Study). He underwent traditional Gurukula education, in Vedas (Tattiriya Shakha –Mula) and (Prasthana Traya) Shastras (1998-2005), in Veda Vijnana Gurukulam, Bengaluru, Under Pracarya Kotemane Ramachandra Bhat. He is currently serving Director of Division of Textual Research in Yoga, Indica Academy. He earlier served as the Director, Research Department, of Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, Chennai, for over a decade (2010-2021). His expertise in the field of Yoga, academics and Research has been recognized and utilized by various academic and research organizations by nominating him to various academic boards and councils including the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library-CSIR, Govt of India (Task force member), Kalakshetra Foundation (Governing Board Member), Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, Chennai. He recently received (2021) Saṃskṛta Grantha Puraskara from Karnataka Sanskrit university for his Sanskrit book -Mantra-artha-cintanam.
