Global Festival of Yoga-2021: Report

We’re happy to share that Indica Yoga’s Global Festival of Yoga 2021 was recently concluded, and by God’s grace, the event was a success. This was the second edition of the Global Festival of Yoga and we hope to make this annual event an essential activity for yoga teachers and practitioners across the world.

The month-long festival commenced on the International Day of Yoga which is celebrated on 21st June, and ended on Sunday, 18th July. We chose the theme of Healing | Well-Being | Wisdom as the essence of the festival and we also had a special focus on nutrition, Ayurveda and a plant-based diet. Our pandemic-affected world has been going through a very difficult time and we feel that the best way to overcome this unfortunate situation is through yoga and spiritual development.

Indica Yoga collaborated with the Center for Soft Power, The Global Peace Initiative for Women, Ritambhara Wellness, Ritambhara Ashram and The Indian Yoga Association to host the festival. We hosted two Zoom sessions a day between 7 am - 8 am IST and 7 pm -  8 pm IST. The sessions were a combination of practice, theory, dialogues and conversations, and panel discussions. We had sessions on asana practice, and talks on Vedanta, the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras, as well as sessions on dealing with emotions and thought patterns. Our special focus on nutrition, Ayurveda and a plant-based diet translated into sessions on how to integrate Ayurveda in our daily lives beyond just our diet.

We are thrilled to share that our speakers/presenters and participants have given us positive feedback for the festival and all have displayed interest in future collaborations with Indica Yoga. We’re happy and humbled that some of the world’s best authorities on yoga collaborated with us including Kiran Vyas (Founder & Director, Tapovan Open University of Yoga & Ayurveda, France), Yogashri N. V. Raghu Ram (Chairman & Spiritual Founder, Yoga Bharati, US & India), Eddie Stern (Senior Yoga Teacher and Author based in New York), Nrithya Jagannathan (Director, KYM Institute of Yoga Studies), Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani (Chairman ICYER & Yoganjali Natyalayam, Pondicherry. Director of the Centre for Yoga Therapy Education and Research (CYTER), Professor of Yoga Therapy at the Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Pondicherry), Raghu Anantanarayan (Founder, Ritambhara Ashram), and Yogacharya Srivatsa Ramaswami (Founder, Vinayasakrama Yoga), to name a few. We also had a memorable chanting session by the world-famous Krishna Das.

Our session on Ayurveda and a plant-based diet were hosted by renowned experts on the subject like Chef Jamie Raftery (Founder, The Holistic Chef), Myra Lewin (Ayurvedic Practitioner and Ayurveda Yoga Therapist, Founder Hale Pule, Hawaii), and Dr Bhaswati Bhattacharya (Clin. Asst. Professor of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, NY), to name a few.
